Steven D. Rickard, a Real Estate Appraiser and Professional Land Economist (PLE) has enjoyed a multifaceted career in real estate over the past 30 years. A graduate of McMaster University in urban geography (Honours B.A.) Mr. Rickard began his career as a homebuilder and land developer. During the 1980's he included within his area of expertise commercial real estate brokerage and appraisal; he is an accredited member of the Appraisal Institute of Canada (AACI). Additionally Mr. Rickard established a successful property tax consulting firm which he continues to manage.

The possibility of resolving real estate related disputes by alternate processes attracted Mr. Rickard to Mediation and Arbitration procedures. He has functioned both as a Mediator, assisting parties to resolve their differences, and an independent Arbitrator. A chartered arbitrator (C. Arb), and a former Board member of the Alberta Arbitration & Mediation Society, he has taught arbitration courses, and continues as a marker of student arbitrator examinations. Mr Rickard acts as an arbitrator for the Calgary Real Estate Board and has been an arbitrator for the Alberta New Home Warranty Program. He provides real estate consulting services to law firms and offers his services as an independent arbitrator of real estate and construction related matters including lease renewals and insurance disputes.

Mr. Rickard is also the principal in a property management company and in that capacity resolves interpersonal and technical problems on an on-going basis.

Mr. Rickard's civic duties include serving on the non-profit Board of Motive Action (teaching young people how to work) and serving as the Calgary West Rotary Club's president in 2000-2001 and the District Governor in 2005-2006. Additional information can be found at www.propertytaxes.com.
